About the Event
Taught by Tara and Jeff Hahn from Hahn's Honeybee Haven. The Hahn's have a tried and tested winterization method developed over many years of bee keeping here in Western New York. We all know the winter's here can be cold and long so having a strong winterization method to protect your colonies. The Hahns will be covering the following topics in this interactive class:
- Fall, winter, and early spring feeding and proper feed ratios and recipes;
- "Right-sizing" your hives for winter to match colony populations;
- Hive wraps and quilt boxes; insulation and increased ventilation to combat moisture issues during our long, harsh winters;
- When it's safe to check on your ladies; a temperature and cluster guide; and
- Q & A session for any questions you may have.
*** Hahn's Honeybee Haven is an apiary in Newfane NY. Hahn's bees are all from local swarm recoveries. They also make a vareity of beautiful products that we sell in our shop including honey, candles and beeswax food wraps.***
